ROOM TO GROW FOR COMPANY

A Dalgety Bay garage conversion company is thriving thanks to the recession, as some homeowners opt for extension over relocation.

Gain-A-Room Ltd was set up in January by directors Alan Duncan and Dean Mckenzie, and has since expanded to larger premises and taken on new staff.

Based at the Dalgety Bay Business Centre, the duo now employ an office administrator and two full-time fitting teams to keep up with the level of work.

Mr Duncan said, "The demand for this kind of conversion work has been phenomenal and the business has really taken off.

"We are finding that in the current economic climate many people are opting to enlarge their current homes rather than move house."

The company converts garages into a variety of spaces, including bedroom, studio, office, play room, sitting room, dining areas or even a cinema room.

Jerry Alexander, director of Liberty Business Centres, said, "We have had several new and established companies locate to our premises in recent months, which hopefully is a positive reflection on the state of the local economy.

"Rather than just providing office space, we believe it is essential to 'add value' to our range of services so as to attract new businesses.

"These include the hosting of regular business networking events, as well as the provision of meeting rooms, administrative support and storage facilities."
